The car rental giant Hertz recently deployed biometrics in their process to speed up the car rental process for their customer at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This will make them the first rental car company to deploy biometrics in their system.
Over the years we have seen the evolution of biometrics in different sectors. It has migrated over the last 50 years from secure government facilities to banks, airports, mobile phones and even to offices that ensure security just by a single touch. For example, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) deployed a biometric SIM card registration system throughout the country using our Bio-Plugin™ image capture system and M2-EasyScan™ fingerprint reader. This deployment of the M2SYS biometric identification solution has helped telecommunications companies and the NCC to create a centralized database that includes over 140 million SIM card user fingerprint biometric templates to more easily trace and track mobile activities. U.S. Vision, an international optometric dispensary chain, deployed the RightPunch biometric time clock in order to optimize labor tracking performance and centrally monitor employee attendance from more than 700 locations. Biometric technology plays a vital role when it comes to workforce management by providing a foolproof mechanism to accurately track employee time and attendance and process payroll. Biometric time and attendance systems have become more of a necessity in environments such as manufacturing plants, transport, and distribution, retail operations, corporate management, schools and universities, government offices – essentially, nearly all workforce environments.
A lot of organizations are implementing biometric workforce management systems to eliminate employee time theft. Biometric workforce management systems can be configured with a variety of hardware modalities including; fingerprint, finger vein, iris, facial, and voice recognition and are easily integrated into workforce management software. The use of biometrics for employee time and attendance has the potential to pay multiple dividends to employers including the elimination of altering manual time sheets that can lead to productivity losses. Standard biometric time and attendance system can be easily integrated with workforce management software such as Kronos, ADP, Empower, or Qqest. When an employee punches in using a fingerprint, finger vein, facial recognition or iris recognition device, their time is automatically recorded into the workforce management system and can be used for payroll processing and evaluation purposes. Most employees work longer hours than their ancestors as consumer choices continue to exponentially multiply and pressure increases to boost revenues and remain competitive. Increased work hours do not necessarily mean increased efficiency though. Conversely, an increase in work-hours may sometimes have a negative effect on employee efficiency.
The question then becomes: How can you improve employee efficiency when work hours increase? Here are three ways to improve employee efficiency and productivity: 1 – Empower & CommunicateEmpowering employees is an important element to increase efficiency. A lot of employers tend to have direct involvement in all day-to-day operations to make sure that quality is not compromised. While it may be true that employers involved in day-to-day operations contribute to organizational success, it may also waste valuable time which could be better spent working on big picture items. A more effective approach is to assign responsibilities to employees who are capable and can be trusted in their ability to perform. This will also help employees develop additional skills, a sense of responsibility, and leadership experience – all key elements that could benefit your organization. A recent survey conducted by Veridium titled “Biometric Consumer Sentiment Survey” shows that 70% of people in the US, who are experienced in using biometric authentication, positively support the expansion of it in the workplace. Among the participants, 35% think it’s required for the speed, 31% focused on security, and interestingly 33% support biometric authentication for password-less operation.
Use of biometric at the workplace Forever 21, Inc., one of the leading fashion retailers from the US having 700 stores in 48 different countries, is using biometric technology in their stores. They have integrated RightPunch – a PC based biometric time clock from M2SYS Technology with their Kronos workforce management system to secure POS transactions and shift management. Using RigthPunch, they have saved millions of dollars every year by eliminating time theft and buddy punching at their stores. Just like them, many other enterprises in the United States, and other developed countries are starting to use biometric authentication at their workplaces to increase productivity and efficiency eliminating buddy punching and time theft. Both ways improve productivity, but which one is more efficient?
Recruiting new employees is typical for companies that grow and expand. Fresher employers can also provide previously unknown new ideas and perspectives. However, at some point companies need to think about better capitalizing on the experience level of their current workforce. What is often discovered when evaluating staff experience is that progress remained stagnant because proper procedures were never established that address employee motivation. There are other reasons that serve as reminders to the problems of hiring new employees. Despite the positive vibes of employee recruitment, here are the top issues and concerns about hiring new staff: Finding the right candidateFinding the right candidates can be a big challenge. You need a passionate, skilled, focused employee, but these people aren’t always easy to find. Huge time investmentValuable working hours must be attributed to recruiting new employees. The choice is either to contact a recruiting agency or have an internal HR team to take care of it. Either way, there is still a need to expense many hours for preparing and training new employees. All related research and preparations have been completed, and the project is about to be launched very soon.
A press release published at the end of December 2018 says that the project will be initiated by January 2019. The scope of the project is to provide biometric IDs to all of its citizens and non-citizen residents. The government is expecting to gain accurate information about its population to ensure better distribution of social and public services for everyone. Reasons behind the Implementation of Biometric IDAs one of the leading biometric technology vendors for many years, M2SYS Technology has successfully deployed thousands of biometric systems in over 100 countries. In 2015, the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs in Turkey initiated the project of Biometric National ID for its citizens, where M2SYS was involved as a biometric technology vendor and enrolled over 12 million biometric data templates. Based on our 17 years of experience working in the industry, we believe that there are some reasons have driven Togo to go for this biometric ID project. Read more… Kronos
When it comes to workforce management and organization solutions, Kronos is undoubtedly one of the leading software solutions. Many organizations use Kronos to collect real-time employee attendance and punctuality data, putting to use a telephone, a clock, or a self-service portal using which employees can punch in whenever they arrive to work and punch out when they leave. In such a manner, the organization authorities are able to keep a record of the timestamps at which an employee comes and leaves. Unfortunately, there is a downside to using the time punching clock and self-service system with Kronos, and that is that it is extremely easy or employees to simply ask their work friends or colleagues to punch in on their behalf. While it may not seem like that big of an issue, it actually ends up costing companies over 3% of the payroll costs in the long run and may even get them in trouble in terms of compliance and labor laws. RightPunch Biometrics System- The Resolution Among the plethora of benefits of a biometrics-based punching in a system is the fact that you can completely eliminate buddy punching and time theft practices if they are being carried out in your workplace. RightPunch is a biometric soft clock that has been designed to seamlessly integrate with and operate within a Kronos or ADP environment, allowing you to timestamp your workers and collect real-time biometric data digitally with a system that is cost-effective yet extremely efficient. Seamless Integration with Kronos The implementation of RightPunch with Kronos and ADP systems is as easy, smooth, and seamless as it can possibly be, fitting right in with your existing infrastructure to provide you with the functionalities that you have been so far missing out on. All you have to do is install the RightPunch software onto your system and plug it to the biometric device of your choice to get the punching process up and running almost immediately. RightPunch seamlessly integrates with Kronos workforce central, workforce dimension, and other workforce ready products.
